Most of the people do not give much importance and care for oral health. But, the fact is, maintaining a good oral hygiene and habit helps a person to stay healthier. Dental health can affect a person’s other health issues. Developing dental diseases may affect the health condition of a person negatively.

Maintaining dental health is simple and it starts with good oral habits. Hygienic and good oral habits include very simple activities such as brushing, and flossing. The main things or steps for a good oral hygiene are:


  • Brush twice a day
  • Use enough fluoride for brushing
  • Use good quality tooth brush
  • Practice good technique of brushing
  • Keep the brush and other dental equipments clean


Flossing is done usually to clean the tight spaces between the teeth and under the gum line. These spaces are unreachable with a toothbrush. It can clean the hiding bacteria inside the mouth. It is done with a dental floss of 46 centimeters. The processes of flossing can extent up to five to ten minutes. The duration may vary depending upon the individual. Be gentle while flossing. Taking one tooth at a time for flossing is the best way. It is not necessary to use a dental floss. You can even use a special plastic or wooden pick, brush or stick designed for flossing. You can floss the teeth before or after brushing.

It is also important to clean the mouth thoroughly before and after food. Maintaining a good diet also plays a role in oral health. Having more candies, chocolates or sweets can negatively affect the tooth and gum. It may create way for bacteria and plaque to develop. Along with all these activities, it is better to have a check up with a dentist at least once in a month. Whenever, you feel any problem or have symptoms of any dental diseases, it is necessary to meet a dentist.
