Complete Dentures

A denture is a complete or partial set of artificial and removable teeth or gum tissues placed instead of missing teeth. There are two types of dentures. They are complete dentures and partial dentures.

Complete Dentures are mainly of two types, immediate and conventional. In conventional denture, it takes eight to twelve weeks for removing the teeth & then to place the artificial teeth. Immediate dentures are placed in the mouth just after the removal of the teeth. In conventional dentures, the gum tissue gets time to heal. In contrast, immediate dentures don’t get sufficient time to heal. During this healing period, the bone and gum tissues shrink. So, it is a disadvantage compared to immediate denture. It takes more time fit properly.

Partial Dentures

A partial denture consists of a teeth-replacement that has been attached to a gum-colored plastic base. It is connected by a metal framework. This helps to hold the denture in place. They are usually used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw. It also helps to fill the space created by a missing tooth. The denture is removable and has internal attachments. It gives a more natural appearance to the teeth and face.

Valplast Dentures/ Flexible Dentures

Valplast is a flexible resin based denture that is ideal for use as a partial denture. The denture is also unbreakable when used. The biocompatible nylon thermoplastic denture contains physical and aesthetic properties that allow a patient’s natural gum tissue-colour to appear through the material, which makes it almost invisible to the human eye.

Do I qualify for Valplast dentures?

Individuals looking for an alternative to dental bridges or dental implants for replacing missing teeth would find this as their ideal solution in this cosmetic treatment. Compared to traditional methods of replacement, Valplast dentures are relatively cheaper.

The thin and lightweight nature of the device allows patients to feel more confident when eating and speaking, due to its effective retention.

What are the advantages of Flexible dentures?

Patients who wear flexible dentures are unlikely to experience any pain or discomfort from the fixture, due to the lack of metal clasps or adhesive. Using this form of treatment, individuals are able to enjoy increased retention as a result of the custom-fitted design.

In addition, flexible dentures provide a cosmetic solution for people by being more aesthetically pleasing than their traditional counterparts. The material used to create the fixture is transparent and blends in with the natural gum colour in the mouth. The metal-clasps found in traditional dentures are replaced with tooth coloured clasps in flexible dentures.

The simple nature of the accessory means that it can be quickly manufactured. This happens to be an ideal solution for dental patients. The fact that there is reduced number of components used means that there will be a significantly shorter waiting time.

Dental patients who are unable to receive alternative types of dentures as a result of irregularities concerning their mouth shape could benefit greatly from the flexible fitting due to the fact it adjusts to each individual.

How to Care for Your Flexible Partial Denture

Like your own natural teeth, flexible partial dentures require care and good oral hygiene. To keep your restoration to look and feel new, follow these simple denture care directions:

  • Clean your appliance regularly. Most brands of flexible partials will have a specific cleaner that is recommended for your new denture. Please consult your dentist if you have any questions regarding the type of denture cleaner you should be using.
  • Loose particles can be removed with the use of a sonic denture cleaner, or by placing the appliance under running water. Brushing a denture is generally not recommended as this may remove the polish and roughen the surface over time.
  • If possible, rinse your new dental appliance after eating to remove any food particles.
  • Keep the partial denture in water or in denture cleaner whenever it is not being worn to keep the surface hydrated.
  • Remember to brush your natural teeth and gums regularly as directed by your dentist.
